I really hope you’re right in your positive views of the festival. I leave, as usual, inspired by so much good creative work. But I’m also disappointed to see how irrelevant most of the work we saw is to the community outside advertising. A lion doesn’t mean anything to the startup ecosystem. It takes a lot more to be relevant to decision makers in the startup world. A lot of these ideas should be structured to become businesses that change the world. They’re not, because their goal is to win a lion. Now, those good ideas that are created with the goal of changing the world and make a profit in the process are not often seen in Cannes because the festival is expensive and structured to award the idea which, as you know, is not the most important part of a business. I will continue to come to Cannes for as long as I can to get that fix of inspiration and networking. Now, I doubt this festival will show us the next Uber. At least not in the next few years.
